James, Earl of Wessex, is the second child and son of Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh. He was born in Frimley Park Hospital, Surrey, on 17 December 2007, and was the first grandson of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip to be born for 23 years since Prince Harry.
He became Earl of Wessex on 10 March 2023 when his father Edward became Duke of Edinburgh. He will not inherit the title Duke of Edinburgh upon his father's death, however he is heir apparent to his father's hereditary titles of Earl of Wessex and Viscount Severn.
